Whole plant: Juice is alexiteric. Decoction for febrifuge wash.

Stem and Leaf: Infusion as sudorific for fevers; bechic, emollient. Used for female sterility and hemorrhage in NW Guyana.

Leaf: Mixed with honey in an infusion to treat coughs, for a febrifuge and diuretic, and to treat snakebite.
